Your Charter Newsletter for Music Technology Education

JENIFFER ARNOLD

Hello, and welcome to the first issue of the MICHIGAN MUSICTECH newsletter! It is the hope of the MSBOA Computer and Technology Committee to bring you information that will be helpful and fun for the beginner in technology as well as the more keystroke-proficient user. We will be compiling newsletter information throughout the year and, with your help, we can publish a newsletter three times a year and send it with the fall, winter, and spring mailings. Anything you may have or are doing concerning music with computers and technology may be of help to someone in the membership and can be shared through this newsletter. We would also welcome any ideas or resources you may have concerning new technology, programs, and activities that are being used or in the works to enhance music education. Any ideas or hints you have to help overcome the learning curve of the more "advanced" (i.e., user unfriendly) programs could be included.

Included in this newsletter is a list of names and numbers of those who indicated they would like to be a member of the MSBOA Computer Users Network. We hope this will make it easier for exchanging information (in case any of you thought you were alone when it came to those tricky Finale problems). Also, the MSBOA Hotline in the Pepper National Music Network (PNMN) is again active. Simply look under the Industry Hotline section. You can leave messages, provide news, or post questions through this network, and the service is free of charge.

Michigan MusicTech Home Page   If you would like to write an article, have some helpful hints for solving computer mysteries, or merely wish to share some interesting information, you can contact me through the membership list, or on-line through PNMN. During the summer you can contact Barton Polot, the music education technology point man at the University of Michigan. Call him at 734 / 764-5599 to arrange for submissions.

Due to the great turn-out and wonderful responses all of you gave last January, we will again be having a Technology Day prior to the 1995 Midwestern Conference in Ann Arbor. We are using your comments and suggestions to make this upcoming Technology conference highly informative and exciting. Advanced registration will also be used to plan the Technology Day so look for more information about this conference in your fall mailing.
