MSBOA Committees
The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association is greatly aided by the work of numerous committees. Please contact the chair person of any committee with your questions, suggestions, and concerns.
Budget AND FINANCE COMMITTEE
Prepares an annual budget and analyzes our financial position. Makes recommendations to the Executive Board.
COMMISSIONING PROJECT COMMITTEE
The Commissioning Project selects composers to write music in honor of individuals and events connected with the history and traditions of MSBOA.
CONDUCTING SYMPOSIUM COMMITTEE
Promotes an annual symposium where conductors work with an excellent musical group under the tutelage of master conductors. Video and audio tapes are used to improve techniques.
FESTIVAL IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE
Considers all possible changes in festival procedures.
FUTURE PLANNING COMMISSION
Projects the future of MSBOA and provides possible directions.
HONORARY AND EMERITUS ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE
Implements procedures to recognize and honor retired instrumental music teachers as members emeritus, and outstanding music professionals as honorary members. Inventories interests of retired and honorary members as potential resources for MSBOA.
MICHIGAN MUSIC CONFERENCE COMMITTEE
Oversees MSBOA involvement in the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids.
POLICY STUDY COMMITTEE
Deals with questions of policy, such as district transfer, extra curricular trips by musical groups, and special adjudication.
MUSIC EDUCATION WORKSHOP COMMITTEE
Conducts two annual meetings to consider questions of music education.
MUSIC TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
Promotes the education of members on current music technology and creates the Music Technology Workshop. Studies the future of technology and instrumental music.
SURVIVAL CAMP COMMITTEE
Organizes the annual Survival Camp for early career directors.
UPPER PENINSULA COMMITTEE
Formed to coordinate MSBOA upper and lower peninsula activities and to ensure upper peninsula involvement in all MSBOA functions.
MICHIGAN YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL COMMITTEE
Organizes an annual Michigan Youth Arts Festival with an all-state band, orchestra, and jazz ensemble. Outstanding soloists, also perform with guest orchestras.
